About
Ahn Taekwondo and the
United Taekwondo Association
United Taekwondo Association
In 1971, Grandmaster Kyongwon
Ahn founded the United Taekwondo Association (UTA) to help bring reputable
martial arts instruction to the U.S. The goals of the UTA were to promote
uniformity and standardization for the martial arts. To this end, a
standardized curriculum has been established and utilized for decades, which
has resulted in Testing Requirements and other
rank standards that are recognized and followed by all UTA Masters,
Instructors, and students of the UTA member schools.
-
Students in the UTA are required to follow the
Testing Requirements, in addition to the required
terminology,
history, and other readings assigned to each rank in the UTA
Student Manual. (For example, the Korean Flag is
a reading assignment.)
-
Each student is expected to display more physical and mental maturity
with each test, to the best of his/her ability.
-
Depending on rank, a written paper may be
requested. See some examples
of successful papers from previous testing candidates.
Prior to testing, you must download and complete the UTA Promotion Test application. The application is available online in
Microsoft Word format or
Adobe Acrobat format, or you can get a copy from your instructor. If you are testing for Black Belt, you must complete 3 copies of the application.
